RASCHAU, 30 November, 2012 – Take: suitable terrain (or build a tower), build the inrun, the platform, the landing slope, the out-run, select an inrun system made by Peter Riedel and there goes your jump facility! Sure? Absolutely sure?
Well…in principle, all the required components are available. But in order to provide for a high-class competition on this ski jump that complies with the regulations of the International Ski Federation – which specify for instance how deep an inrun must be – you will need an instrument which is sometimes not paid attention to: an ice mill, an Ice-Bogy.
In order to meet the new regulations of the FIS for the Four Hills Tournament in 2012/13, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is currently receiving a new ice mill made by Peter Riedel. It is completely made of stainless steel, contains a newly developed running gear and a newly developed ice processing system with a special snow ejector as well.
The triaxial milling system is new as well, the special cutters (that could be replaced by brushes) which texture the ice even better are new as well. "This new device will sustainably improve the conditions for the athletes in the track, from the first to the last ski jumper", the owner of the company, Peter Riedel, says. "The mill causes even more air to get under the sliding surface during the inrun and consequently, the coefficient of sliding friction continues to decrease."
After the mill had been ordered in spring, it will be accepted together with the winch by the TÜV on 3 December. A few days earlier, the ice placing is started on the Olympic Hill (Olympiaschanze) Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Indeed, this year there was no training of the DVS national squad on this site, but maybe some nations can still exercise in Garmisch if the new ice track is commissioned.
However, one thing is sure: If you possess the ice mill by Peter Riedel GmbH as well, then, well then you have gathered all the required components to stage an exiting ski jumping event!
