The pelican has landed! The 2017 World Rowing Championships Host Committee is thrilled to introduce its new feathered friend to the community. Now, the pelican needs your help coming up with its name.

Name submissions can be made via DIRECT MESSAGING on Facebook (@wrch2017) and Twitter (@wrch2017), or can be submitted via E-MAIL to: info@wrch2017.com with the subject line: Pelican Mascot Name.

All name submissions must be unisex/gender neutral. The deadline to submit is 11:59 PM US EST, on December 23, 2016.

Once all submissions have been collected, there will be a selection process, with the list narrowed down to five names.

Through online polls, the 2017 World Rowing Championships social media followers, and other interested fans, will have the final say as to what name the mascot will be given.

Throughout the next year, the pelican will flock to various gatherings around the region. It will make its first public appearance this weekend on board the 2017 World Rowing Championships float at the Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade.
