Plans for ensuring millions of Londoners and visitors can get around during the 2012 Games will kick off a question and answer session tomorrow on the key transport challenges facing the capital.

Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy will appear before the London Assembly Transport Committee to answer questions on Transport for London’s (TfL) performance in a climate of rising demand and reduced budget.

Committee Members will discuss how TfL is dealing with huge challenges like planning for the Games, upgrading the London Underground and building Crossrail, while trying to find savings of £7.6bn by 2017-18.

Committee Members will also discuss operational issues like managing road congestion, plans for the bus network and the future of the cycle hire scheme, and check progress on improvements it has called for in recent reports[1].

From 10am the Transport Committee will question:

* Peter Hendy, Commissioner, Transport for London

* Leon Daniels, Managing Director, Surface Transport, Transport for London

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 11 October from 10am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
