2012 Pentathlon Website

Modern pentathlon now has a website for the 2012 Olympics –the 100th anniversary of the sport’s Olympic inclusion.

UIPM, the pentathlon federation, announced the launch of the site on Thursday.

Fans of the sport can follow the latest 2012 pentathlon news here.

In addition to pentathlon-centric news, the site will also feature a "Countdown till the eagerly anticipated opening of the Games" and "All the important Olympic Downloads".

So far, the news feed features articles on the three venues for pentathlon–the Aquatics Centre, Greenwich Park and the Handball Arena.

Competition during the Games will take place Aug. 11 and 12. Before then, the UIPM World Cup Final on July 9-10 serves as the official test event.

Big Pay Day for RWC

Ticket sales for the 2011 Rugby World Cup passed the $200 million NZD mark, totaling more than $165 million.

With the benchmark reached, Rugby New Zealand, the event organizer, has now earned 75% of its revenue target.

"This is a significant milestone," RNZ 2011 CEO Martin Snedden said in a statement. "It is a great place to be with the final ticket phase beginning on Monday.

"Prior to RWC 2011, the highest revenue-generatingevent in New Zealand’s history was the 2005 British & Irish Lions Tour, which grossed NZ$24m. As of today, we have achieved eight times the ticket revenue for that event."

Just over 900,000 tickets have been sold thus far.

"RWC 2011 is on track to be a successful tournament that New Zealanders and the global Rugby family will be proud of," said International Rugby Board chairman Bernard Lapasset.

Sailing Test EventSet

Four-hundred sixty sailors will test the conditions at London’s sailing venue, Weymouth and Portland.

ISAF, the international sailing federation, announced Thursday that 66 countries submitted 460 sailors as competitors for the test event.

According to ISAF, the selection process wasn’t easy for everyone.

"For many of Member National Authorities there has been a selection headache with nations following game time rules where only one athlete per event is allowed," the federation said in a statement.

Olympic sailing is scheduled for July 29 through August 11.
