
(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame travels west through Quebec and crosses back into Northeastern Ontario on Day 64 of the torch relay.
Yesterday highlights include the torch traveling through 13 towns and being carried by two Olympians. The torch also traveled across the border from Ontario to Quebec.
Today, the torch relay departs Val-d’Or and travels through the towns of Pikogan and Amos.
The flame crosses back into Ontario and visits the towns of Virginiatown, Larder Lake and Kirkland Lake where a welcome celebration is planned at Hockey Heritage North and will include music and dance demonstrations.
The torch continues travel to the town of Matheson and then to Iroquois Falls where field hockey Olympian Sharon Speers will run with the flame.
The 2010 flame proceeds through the town of South Porcupine.
The Olympic Torch reaches its final destination point of the day in the city of Timmins located on the Mattagami River.
A community celebration will take place at Hollinger Park and will include an Aboriginal welcome followed by a traditional First Nations drumming demonstration. Timmins Police Pipes and Drum will perform, followed by the national anthem.
The torch will also ride in the City of Timmins van which is adorned with decals of local images including a large photo of country singer Shania Twain.
Over the weekend, the torch travels through 21 towns and will be carried by five Olympians as it continues travel through Ontario.
