The cycling weekend was of sweat and joy for about 120 athletes who competed in the State Track Cycling Championship in the Velodrome of Rio. In addition to reopening of the space after the Rio 2016 Games, the athletes fought for important points for the national and state cycling track ranking.
The highlight was Cristian da Rosa and Wellyda dos Santos, winners in the Omnium competition. One of the main names in the country and representative of Team Brazil in Rio 2016, Gideoni Monteiro finished second and revived one of the most remarkable moments in his career, which was to put Brazil back in an edition of the Olympic Games after the country’s 24 years of absence in the sports.
Approximately 3 thousand people were present at the Velodrome of Rio. About 120 registered cyclists competed in categories like Elite Male/Female and Sub 23 Male/Female, besides young athletes from 12 to 18 years old. The State Cycling Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FECIERJ) organizes weekly clinics of the sports on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the Velodrome.
