68th UIPM Congress:
FRANKFURT, GERMANY: November 27, 2016 - The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) today convened its new leadership team for the 2017-2020 Olympic cycle.
Two female Olympians are among the newcomers on the Executive Board. They are Aya Medany of Egypt, the new Chair of the Athletes Committee, and Kitty Chiller of Australia, the new President of the Oceania Modern Pentathlon Confederation, and together with Secretary General Shiny Fang (CHN) they make up a female contingent of three on the board for the Tokyo 2020 cycle.
Aya Medany competed at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games and is a Member of the International Olympic Council (IOC) Athletes Commission; Kitty Chiller competed in the 2000 Olympic Games and was Chef de Mission of the Australian team at the 2016 Olympic Games.
The UIPM President, Dr Klaus Schormann, Treasurer, Vice Presidents and Members for Sport, Media, Marketing and Development were all elected during the 68th UIPM Congress on November 25/26 and are listed below.
Today, one additional appointment was made by the Executive Board when Christian Roudaut (FRA) was elected as Chair of the Coaches Committee.
Now only one of the 21 positions on the Executive Board remains to be confirmed: the position of Chair of the Medical Committee, which will be decided by the new Medical Committee members in due course.
Kitty Chiller is one of four other newly-elected Presidents of Continental Confederations on the Executive Board, joining the re-elected Dmytro Svatkovsky (Europe) and Jorge Salas (South America). They are Nundkishor Fakun from Mauritius (Africa), Sangwoo Park from Korea (Asia) and Rob Stull from USA (NORCECA).
UIPM Secretary General Shiny Fang said: "It is my honour to continue working with all of our Executive Board members for another four years. Together with all other UIPM committees and commissions and the full dedication of our staff team, we can make the difference again for another Olympic cycle!"
UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: "First of all I am thankful to the board members who are no longer serving the Union and I welcome the new members too. They are great people and very well-known sport personalities in their countries.
"Not only because of the record number of countries, but also because of the important decisions approved by our members, we can say that this Congress was a glorious moment for the UIPM.
"We are looking forward to the first Executive Board meeting in Lausanne at the Olympic Museum, which will be attended by the IOC President Dr Thomas Bach."
Also today Peter Engerisser (GER) was appointed as Chair of the Masters Committee and Ivar Sisniega (MEX), the outgoing UIPM 1st Vice-President, as Chair of the new Innovation Commission.
The first meeting of the new Executive Board will be held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne (SUI) on January 20-21, 2017.
