N3XT Sports led the digital transformation process to enable the Guatemala Olympic Committee to adopt a data-driven high performance approach. This approach recently received the National Innovation Award 2020 by the Government of Guatemala

For the past 2 years, N3XT Sports has been working very closely with the Guatemala Olympic Committee (GOC) and with the Confederación Deportiva Autónoma de Guatemala (CDAG) to develop and implement a digital transformation strategy. Thanks to this, N3XT Sports developed a high performance technology framework to ensure that the sports system is based on efficient processes that encourage data-driven decision making.

With the technology framework in place, N3XT Sports coordinated educational sessions with coaches, athletes, the applied sciences team and the high performance team on the end-to-end data value chain and how to utilize it, from data capture to data analytics to decision making.

Gerardo Aguirre, President of the Guatemala Olympic Committee highlights ¨From the leadership standpoint, for many years, we have been looking for novel ways to improve the competitive level of our athletes to be able to compete against the best. Now, thanks to the use of technology and innovation, we can offer better tools to our athletes but also to lay the foundations for future generations."

The 2-year project involved many stakeholders within the GOC and CDAG including the leadership team. As part of the digital transformation process, a strong culture and change management journey was needed in order to move further with the project.

An integral diagnosis impacting the high performance area as well as other supporting areas immersed in this transversal organizational change was elaborated.

As a result of the collaboration with the COG and CDAG, a strategic plan for short, medium and long-term scalable implementation was developed with funding clearly categorized and incentivized across national federations. The COG has a technology sourcing and data governance framework across all its sports.

Mounir Zok, CEO of N3XT Sports and former director of technology and innovation of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee highlights: Through digital transformation, national olympic committees and sports federations can benefit massively to develop efficient operations and a data-driven culture that produces results. Our team worked hand-in-hand (both remotely from our offices in Spain and on site in Guatemala) with the whole sports system - including coaches, athletes, high performance directors and sports scientists - to generate the necessary processes and tools and provide the necessary awareness and education. Thanks to the visionary leadership of the Guatemala Olympic Committee and the Confederacion Deportiva Autonoma de Guatemala, and to their confidence bestowed in our team, we were able to contribute to the technology and innovation efforts that the national sports system is tackling to gain a competitive edge.

The digital transformation journey ensures that the national sports system has the capability, the knowledge and the process in place to adopt emerging technologies in a systematic and agile manner.

The project led by GOC and CDAG with the conditional support of N3XT Sports has been recognized nationally through the National Innovation Award 2020 by the Government of Guatemala. This shows how national governments are recognizing those sports entities that have a thinking-forward mindset and implementing innovation in order to propel the sports industry forward.

Alvaro Reynoso, Adviser of the Guatemala Olympic Committee added: ¨We are very honored to have won the National Innovation Award, for us this is one more motivation to continue working on the innovation projects in which we are working to improve the performance of our athletes. If we work as a team and with the ecosystem we are able to launch disruptive innovative projects¨.

Guatemala's work teams have worked with determination and true passion in supporting athletes and seeking continuous improvement.
