(ATR) The Sportel Asia convention is now only a week and a half away. In preparation for the three-day event, Sportel released a pre-event guide for attendees to make sure they have everything in order to travel to Singapore.

The conference will allow those in the sports media industry to network at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore from March 15-17.

The event also features panel discussions about virtual reality, the future of sports content delivery, and opportunities for the sports media industry in Southeast Asia. La Liga will also deliver a presentation on global innovation to improve content and to add value to audiovisual rights.

The conference offers a daily networking breakfast and an online networking tool to schedule individual meetings with participants before the event begins.

In the pre-event guide, Sportel says attendees should make sure they have a visa, a spot at the hotel booked, boarding passes printed, the badge collected, a copy of the program, the Sportel app and to get familiar with the online networking tool.

City Forum Returns to SportAccord Convention

One of the premier events during the annual SportAccord Convention, City Forum, will focus on the impact of sports on cities that host events.

City Forum will take place on Tuesday, April 19 at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, host of the SportAccord Convention. The forum will be led by Don Schumacher.

"City Forum has always been popular and this year’s event has been given renewed focus following feedback from cities around the world," says Schumacher. "Packed with practical advice, key insights and case studies, the sessions will be more interactive, enabling cities to come away with fresh ideas and know-how, as well as providing a valuable learning experience."

The forum will begin with a presentation by Sportcal about the current state of affairs of host cities. Sportcal has developed an impact methodology to help cities value the benefits of being a host city.

City Forum will be just one of several programs throughout the six-day SportAccord Convention from April 17-22. Now in its 14th edition, the event is attended by key decision-makers across sport and industry.

Francois Carrard Joins The Academy

Sports law specialist and FIFA reform chief Francois Carrard will discuss best practices in the governance of sports organizations at The Academy Forum hosted by TSE Consulting.

Carrard will share his experience working with sports federations such as FIFA to implement vast reforms necessary to bring the federation out of controversy and the negative media spotlight.

"Good governance in sport is not rocket science," says Carrard. "It requires good common sense and, above all, top leadership with a cultural approach based on total integrity."

"Good governance relies on compliance with applicable laws and regulations, transparency, accountability and dedication with a strong will to implement it from the top down to the grass roots of any sport organization. I look forward to share my experiences and views with the Academy participants as well as debating with experts."

Those interested in attending The Academy can register now for an early bird discount.

City Events Highlights Role of the City in Major Events

The sixth edition of the City Events conference will take place in Paris, France from March 14-15 and will highlight the increasing role of the host city in putting on major events.

According to City Events, host cities and event organizers work together more than ever to promote the city and "ensure that these events will be the starting point of policies, programs and projects aiming to improve the quality of life for citizens."

City Events will welcome five sports business professionals that have witnessed the expanding role of the host city in sporting events to deliver its fourth round-table of the conference dubbed "The City at the Heart of the Event".

Jérôme Lacroix of the International Cycling Union, Dawn Goodwin of NGO International Inspiration, London's head of sports Simon Cooper, Paul Zealey of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Geert Hendricks of AISTS will provide their perspectives of the evolving role of the city in organizing events.
