(ATR) The IOC has awarded the Japan Consortium the broadcast rights in Japan for the Olympics through 2024.
The Japan Consortium, which includes the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association, acquired broadcast rights across all media platforms.
"We are delighted that we will continue to work with our broadcast partner, the Japan Consortium, until at least 2024," IOC president Thomas Bach said in a statement.
Bach added, "They have a proven track record in broadcasting the Games to the widest possible audience, which is the cornerstone of the IOC’s broadcast philosophy."
NHK president Katsuto Momii said the Japan Consortium hopes the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will draw "particularly high interest for the public."
"[The Olympics] are not merely a sports festival," Momii added, "They bring enormous significance for the future of Japan."
In 2012, the Japan Consortium became the IOC’s broadcast partner for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games and the 2016 Rio Games.
Turkish NOC Adds Sponsor Through Rio
Koç Holding will sponsor the Turkish Olympic Team during its Rio endeavor and beyond.
The Turkish company agreed to a deal to become the Turkish Olympic Committee’s main sponsor for three years. Koç was also a partner of the Turkish NOC during Istanbul’s bid for the 2020 Olympics.
NOC president Uğur Erdener, CEO of Koç Holding; Turgay Durak; and Koç Holding’s director of corporate communications Oya Ünlü Kızıl signed the agreement at Koç Sports Club in Bağlarbaşı Friday.
"İstanbul is the correct city for the Olympics. We believe that this dream will come true one day; that is why we wanted to be the sponsor of Turkish Olympic Committee," Turgay Durak said in a statement.
"We wish to work in cooperation with the Turkish Olympic Committee for three years to develop the Olympic spirit in Turkey. We believe wholeheartedly that if sport becomes a lifestyle choice and is encouraged at an early age, this would result in big achievements in the future of sport."
