(ATR) More than 100,000 tickets have already been sold for the Parapan American Games in Lima, setting a new record.
The sixth edition of the Games began on Aug. 23 with 30,000 spectators attending the Opening Ceremony at the National Stadium.
Americas Paralympic Committee President JulioÁvila congratulated the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee and Peruvians on the achievement, adding that with the competition running through Sept. 1 he is "sure that the numbers of sales will be a lot higher".
"Peru's love for Para sport and unmatched devotion to the incredible Para athletes competing in Lima is positively changing the way we all perceive those living with an impairment," Lima 2019 Preisdent Carlos Neuhaus said.
"The Parapan American Games are not a magic wand. But they will ensure that important issues like inclusion and accessibility are placed in the forefront of Peru's national agenda."
The Lima 2019 Parapans are the largest ever held, with more than 1,800 Para athletes from 33 countries taking part in 18 sports disciplines across 17 sports. Among the most popular Para sports in Lima are Para athletics, where three world records have already been broken, and sitting volleyball.
Tickets for some events can still be purchased on the Lima 2019 website and at 11 authorized ticket centers in LIma.
