Snowboarding kicked off on Thursday at the Bokwang Phoenix Park with qualifying for the men’s snowboardcross. Christopher Robanske of Canada is in pole position going into Saturday’s competition. Overall leader Pierre Vaultier of France qualified 11th. The Ladies’ qualification takes place on Friday with the winner also to be determined on Saturday.

Sharing the spotlight at Bokwang will be the Freestyle Ski World Cup men’s and women’s ski cross events. Qualifying for both is set for Friday with the winners to be crowned on Sunday.

Last week featured the slopestyle events for both the Snowboarding and Freestyle World Cup tours. Canadian Alex Bellemare, who won the men's freestyle event, was one of many who have raved about the course. He told the CBC "The course was just so awesome and it's way different from anything else we've ever seen. The jumps are really cool."

These are the latest in a series of 28 test events ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The downhill and super-G World Cup races were held earlier this month. Around the Ring’s Brian Pinelli reported from South Korea that the course and the operations at the new Jeongseon Alpine Center were largely applauded by the athletes.
