Over 50,000 Catholics from 55 countries traveled to the Olympic Stadium in Rome to attend a religious ceremony hosted by Pope Francis on Sunday.

Ignazio Marino, the mayor of Rome, and Giovanni Malagò, the president of the Italian National Olympic Committee, were both in the audience on Sunday. After the ceremony concluded, Malagò described it as "a fantastic experience, an honor which will remain an unforgettable memory."

The ceremony marks the fourth time a pope has visited the Olympic Stadium in Rome. Pope Francis was preceded by Pope John Paul II in 1984, 1990, and 2000.

The Olympic Stadium in Rome will host the Olympic Family of Europe’s centennial celebration next week.
