Warsaw Marathon Honors Former Polish NOC Chief
European Olympic Committees president Pat Hickey attended the 33rd Warsaw Marathon to honor Piotr Nurowski, the 11th president of the Polish NOC who died tragically last year.
Hickey joined EOC secretary general Raffaele Pagnozzi and NOC president Andrzej Krasnicki and his colleagues at the marathon Sunday. Several Polish Olympians, NOC officials, relatives and friends of the victims of the air crash that killed Nurowski and 96 other people in April 2010 took part in the race.
Hickey laid a wreath at the tomb of Nurowski in the avenue of heroes at the Powązki Cemetry and met the former NOC chief's family.
The previous day, heads of the three NOCs whose countries will rotate the EU presidency between now and the end of 2012 – Krasnicki, Denmark's Niels Nygaard and Cyprus's Ioannides Ouranios –held a meeting at the Polish NOC's headquarters. Hickey and Polish sports minister Adam Giersz also attended.
At the end of the meeting, the parties signed a cooperation agreement as a basis for common action in favor of the Olympic Movement and European sport to be conducted under the patronage of the EOC and in close contact with the EOC's EU office in Brussels.
2012 List of Prohibited Substances
The World-Anti Doping Agency’slist of prohibited substances for 2012 is now available.
Following approval by its executive committee earlier this month, WADA announced Tuesday publication of the 2012 Prohibited List, 2012 Monitoring Program, a summary of modifications on the 2012 List and a Q&A on major changes.
Among those "major changes" are the removal of formoterol when taken by inhalation in therapeutic dosages, the placement of nicotine on a monitoring program and the removal of alcohol as a prohibited in-competition substance for ninepin and tenpin bowling.
NBC Gets New Olympic Sales Head
Nick Johnson, NBC Universal’s senior vice president of digital sales, is starting a new role handling digital and Olympic sports sales.
According to Media Bistro, he will continue to report directly to Peter Naylor, executive vice president of digital media sales, and indirectly to Seth Winter, senior vice president of sports and Olympics sales.
Johnson joined NBC in 2007 as vice president of digital media sales.
