Seef – Bahrain Olympic Committee:
The organising committee of the Olympic Day is putting its final touches on the 2015 edition of the event, scheduled for tomorrow (Friday).
This year’s Olympic Day is organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) as Bahrain joins other countries from around the world to celebrate this special occasion.
BOC general secretary yesterday (Wednesday) had a meeting with representatives of the standing committees as well as officials from the Ministry of Education and the Bahrain Roadrunners to finalise certain preparations.
Askar was briefed on the final arrangements made by the committees and contributing parties in preparation to hold this year’s edition.
This year, 300 athletes have so far signed up for the walking/running race, to be held in coordination with the Bahrain Roadrunners. It comprises four races of different categories. The first will be open for six to 8 years and covers 400 metres.
Other races will be open for 9-10 years and is over 800m, a 1.5km will be for 12-14 years athletes, while the fourth category race will be over 5km and is open for those aged from 15 years and above.
Meanwhile, McDonalds, Jawad, Trafco and Palace Projects have stepped forward to sign sponsorship deals for the 2015 Olympic Day. The sponsors have submitted their sponsorships to marketing supervisor Seema Al Kharraz.
The Olympic Day is celebrated all over the world on June 23 every year, but the Bahrain Olympic Committee decided to hold it 11 days earlier as it clashes with the Month of Ramadan.
It is a celebration for youth around the world to observe the Olympic values of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship. It is also a day to celebrate the International Olympic Committee’s 3 pillars: Move, Learn and Discover.
It will be held under the patronage of the personal representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
