World Olympians Association (WOA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Fiji Olympian Carl Probert to its Executive Board. Probert joins the WOA Board as a continental representative of the National Olympians Associations of Oceania and brings with him a wealth of experience as an Olympic athlete.

The Olympic swimmer is one of Fiji’s most decorated athletes having represented his country at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1992-2008. Probert is Fiji’s national record holder across multiple disciplines in the pool and also sits as the athlete representative on the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) Executive Board.

WOA President Joël Bouzou said:

"We are delighted to welcome Carl Probert as the newest member of the WOA Executive Board. Carl has a proud Olympic history and his commitment to the Olympic Movement is undeniable. As a representative of his fellow athletes in Fiji, Carl has already proven his ability to support the role of Olympians in society and we are confident his experience and enthusiasm will allow him to make a significant contribution to the WOA as we continue to develop and build the organisation."

Five-time Olympic swimmer Carl Probert said:

"I am honoured to be named as the Oceania representative on the Board of the World Olympians Association and I look forward to working closely with and for my fellow Olympians in the future. The Olympic Games hold a special place in society and Olympians have a responsibility, as leaders and role models, to spread the Olympic ideals through sport and help bring communities closer together."

Probert’s appointment brings the total number of WOA Executive Board members, including the President, to 17 and extends the WOA’s continental representation as mandated by the newly updated WOA Constitution passed by the WOA General Assembly at the inaugural World Olympians Forum in Moscow at the end of last year.

The WOA Executive Board met in Lausanne today for the second of its 2016 quarterly meetings to discuss the ongoing development of the WOA and activities for the year ahead.
