(ATR) The head of the Olympic Council of Asia supports Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

OCA president Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah defended Qatar’s status as a host city after a German FIFA executive member said that Qatar would lose its World Cup hosting rights earlier this week.

"Qatar has completed the process, and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is a foregone conclusion," Ahmad told a Qatar Olympic committee reception in Incheon.

He went on to add that Doha, a bidder for the 2016 and 2020 Games, has potential to host the Olympics sometime in the future.

"I'm sure Doha can win the Olympics in future with determination and the will of its leadership that strongly supports sports development," he said.

FIFA's ethic committee will release the results of its investigation into the bid process for the 2022 World Cup in the coming months.
