"I’m Still Here" is an anthem that speaks to the difficult journey faced by survivors of abuse.
Los Angeles, Calif. – October 16, 2018 - Released last week, Sia’s new single "I’m Still Here" will feature in "At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal," a documentary from Sidewinder Films, the media division of The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD). Recently acquired by HBO, "At the Heart of Gold" exposes a system which allowed predators like Larry Nassar to abuse hundreds of young gymnasts and athletes for decades.
The film’s Director, Erin Lee Carr (HBO’s Mommy Dead and Dearest), said, "This is a story focused on women, and I'm honored to have another strong woman contributing to the project. Sia is an incredible musician, and I think this song in particular resonates with the film." Carr continued, "The concept of being haunted by the past, and ultimately overcoming, speaks to the survivors that we've had the privilege of following."
Trinea Gonczar, one of the Sister Survivors featured in the film, said "This song is so beautiful, and it brings me to tears every time I hear it. It exemplifies the pain we have endured but also expresses the triumph and accomplishments this movement has for all survivors. Sia is so amazingly talented, and she captured what it’s been like for us walking through the darkness -- but finding light in this battle."
"We knew the song chosen for this project had to be a powerful complement to the survivors’ own stories," said Producer Dr. Steven Ungerleider. "Sia’s ‘I’m Still Here’ is indeed a poignant tribute to all survivors," he continued.
Producer David Ulich added, "Our organization GSD is working directly with many of the survivors featured in the film to change the culture of abuse in sport. The victim impact statements and the news stories are just the beginning – these survivors ARE still here and are continuing to create change."
