The approximately 1,400 basic food baskets and masks donated by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC) to the four Municipal Olympic Schools in Rio de Janeiro (MOSRJs) that are part of the Transform program started being distributed on this Tuesday, the 26th, to teachers, employees and family members of students from the educational institutions, that since last year have adopted a methodology aimed at promoting the Olympic Values. The Emma D'Ávila de Camillis school, located in Pedra de Guaratiba, in the Western Zone of Rio de Janeiro, was the one that kick-started the distribution.

"Our school had the honor of starting in 2019 a great partnership with the BOC, through the Transform Program, which provides us with training and, mainly, experiences. This collaboration has incorporated several Olympic Values into our daily lives. But everything that we have experienced so far is materialized in a gesture of affection with our community. In difficult times like the one we are living in, our friends from Transform show us that Olympism goes beyond sport and corroborates with the construction of a more just, fraternal and solidary society. Distributing food means feeding in us the certainty that we are important to someone", said Carlos de Oliveira, assistant director of the MOSRJ Emma D'Ávila.

The delivery of the products will happen until the 4th of June and has respected the safety protocols recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) in these pandemic times of the new coronavirus, that is, with limited flow of people in the same environment and maintenance of adequate distance between them. Each family is entitled to receive up to four masks.

As a result of a partnership between the BOC and the Municipal Secretariat for Education of Rio de Janeiro, the Transform program takes the Olympic theme to schools for all subjects. In this way, the program for the promotion of the Olympic Values provides the development of socio-emotional skills, such as friendship, respect and excellence, to students from the first to the fifth year of elementary school.

"It is with great satisfaction that the Municipal Secretariat for Education of Rio de Janeiro reaffirms the partnership with the BOC, through the Transform program, which at this very difficult time is with us to guarantee the food security of our students. We thank the BOC’s initiative on behalf of our children, their families and our MOSRJ professionals", concluded Heloisa Sermud Braz, head of office of the Municipal Secretariat for Education of Rio de Janeiro, referring to elementary school students.
