(ATR) The Doha 2030 Asian Games bid team unveils its logo and slogan "Your Gateway" in a virtual event.
The Bid Committee says the two combine to "reflect Qatar’s combination of tradition and modernity and its commitment to hosting a magical Games with an enduring legacy for Asia".
Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President and Doha 2030 Asian Games Bid Committee chair Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa revealed the logo and slogan alongside Qatari athletes and committee representatives.
"Our bid is born out of our strong belief that sport has the power to drive social change and foster peace and understanding," said Al-Thani in a statement.
"The unique role sport can play in keeping us connected and inspiring hope has been so clearly demonstrated this year during the global pandemic. It has only strengthened our determination to use Doha 2030 as a gateway to a brighter future for Qatar and the Asian Olympic family."
The contest between Doha and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to host in 2030 will be decided in April 2021 when the Olympic Council of Asia holds its next general assembly. The meeting takes place in Sanya, China where the next edition of the Asian Beach Games is scheduled, postponed from later this year due to coronavirus concerns.
The CEO of the Doha bid says it will supply a gateway to a risk-free, excellent and sustainable Games.
"We are confident that we offer the Olympic Council of Asia and its members certainty because all of the permanent venues we need to host the 2030 Asian Games are already built. Our infrastructure is ready to host Asia and the World," said Jassim Rashid Al-Buenain, who is also QOC Secretary General.
The Qatari capital has hosted the Asiad once before in 2006. More recently, Doha was the venue for the World Athletics Championships last year and the country will host the FIFA World Cup in late 2022.
The Asian Games would be the largest sporting event ever for Saudi Arabia.
The bid campaign between the two capital cities may come with some political overtones. Saudi Arabia has cut off all relations with Qatar since 2017. The Saudi government accuses Qatar of supporting terrorism, a charge denied by Qatar.
Veteran sports leader Wei Jizhong of China is in charge of the evaluation commission which expects to begin its work in October.
