Lecture on 'Own the Podium' staged

President of the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic and High Performance Advisor for ‘Own the Podium’ organization Ken Bagnell stressed the importance of supporting young athletes and long-term planning in reaching podium and achieving victories.

This came during a lecture organized by the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports in cooperation with the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Sports Training and Development Centre at the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa.

The lecture was attended by more than 80 coaches and other sports representatives from national clubs and sports associations.

They were presented with the Canadian expertise in the field of achieving sports excellence through setting up distinctive plans and programmes in an attempt to boost sports performance in Canada and leading to the inspired successes.

Bagnell explained said encouraging young athletes to exercise at an early age, as well bringing the largest popular sector in the field of sports and creating areas of sports interaction with various relevant sectors such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and other sports bodies are some of the main pillars to achieve sporting excellence and industry heroes.

He stressed the importance of scientific research to promote sports movement outputs, and focus on field research at the stadiums, and not to only rely on theoretical research.

Bagnell stressed the need to create an ideal environment for the athletes such as sports facilities while employing managers with experience and competence who are able to optimally manage the athletes in an attempt to achieve highest level of benefit.
