Amman, Jordan: HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein has launched Living Sport, a dynamic new national communications initiative from the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), which will help achieve its vision of sport playing a part in the lives of all Jordanians.
With concern over the Kingdom’s collective health and wellbeing, and the continuous threat of our young people falling victim to damaging and anti-social distractions, the JOC is spearheading positive initiatives to counter these problems.
"Living Sport is a long-term programme which will be at the heart of all JOC activity and operations, and which will evolve as needed through time to remain relevant to all that we do," said HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee.
"There is no end date to sport making a difference to the lives of our citizens and so Living Sport has no end date.
"We, in the Olympic Movement, truly believe in the power of sport to make a positive difference, and the Jordan Olympic Committee is taking responsibility, alongside like-minded organisations, in making that difference."
Living Sport comprises five strands:
Community Well Being: An annual one-month campaign will be launched every year on Olympic Day to address key health and social issues
Changing the Mindset: Through specially created JOC committees, sport will be promoted as universal and without barriers to participation, and organized in an environment-friendly way through green initiatives
Having Fun: Through an innovative ‘Ambassador’ initiative, Living Sport will reach out to the next generation (6-11 year olds) providing great fun and steering them away from anti-social distractions
Promoting our Heroes: Through the JOC News Service, sporting successes will be celebrated, bringing a sense of collective national pride
The business of Sport: Sport must become a more marketable product and attractive to all non-participants from fans to sponsors.
The launch came during Olympic Day celebrations held in Al Hussein Sports City, when the JOC was joined by representatives from all 34 of the sporting federations under its umbrella, as well as 200 school children who took part in activities promoting Living Sport and the Olympic values.
The JOC also recognised Hisham Bakkar, who became the 30,000th person to ‘like’ the JOC’s official Facebook page, which has become a vital tool in communicating sporting success stories and information.
