(ATR) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is rapidly trying to organize a 2019 Asian Games bid before the July 1 deadline.

The IOA contacted its members on Monday, seeking their views on a late bid. According to IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta, India’s new government has already shown interest in supporting an IOA bid for the Asian Games.

"Depending on the feedback [from IOA members], we would approach the government for a formal bid to host the games," Mehta added.

India has hosted the Asian Games twice before in New Delhi, in 1951 and 1982.

If successful, India would be replacing Hanoi as the host of the 2019 Asian Games. The Vietnamese capital was originally awarded hosting rights in 2012, but backed out in April due to fears that the games would not be financially viable.
