Today, Riyadh’s 2030 Asian Games bid announced the appointment of Vice President of Saudi Arabia’s Olympic Committee (SAOC), HH Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdul Aziz, as its Director-General.
HH Prince Fahd joins HRH Prince Abdulaziz, who is President of Riyadh 2030 as well as Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Sports and President of SAOC, as a leader of Riyadh’s bid to host the 2030 Asian Games.
HH Prince Fahd brings a wealth of international event experience from his positions as Vice President of the SAOC, member of the Public Affairs and Social Development Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Relations Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and International Relations Committee of the Federation of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), as well as Chef de Mission for Tokyo 2020 and Jakarta 2018 and Head of Delegation for Buenos Aires 2018. As Director-General of Riyadh 2030, HH Prince Fahd will build on the instrumental work he has already contributed since the SAOC submitted its intention to bid for the 2030 Asian Games in April.
At the recent Riyadh 2030 bid launch presentation (view video on YouTube: https://bit.ly/30QBQ1l), HH Prince Fahd joined key figures from across Saudi sport to outline the bid’s commitment to "Transforming the Future" with a vibrant, diverse and modern event on a spectacular and sustainable stage.
Riyadh’s bid to host the 2030 Asian Games promises to inspire a new generation of fans and athletes through leaving an enduring legacy throughout Asia. As an environmentally-conscious, sustainable project – with Olympic values and financial responsibility embedded throughout – the bid maximizes existing venues alongside temporary and purpose-built arenas, all in front of visually-stunning, iconic backdrops.
Riyadh 2030 Director-General and SAOC Vice President, HH Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdul Aziz, said:
"I am honoured to be driving Riyadh’s bid to host the 2030 Asian Games as Director-General under the patronage of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Alfaisal Al-Saud and I am committed to making every effort to be successful in our attempts to host Saudi Arabia's first ever Asian Games in our beautiful city.
"Since we submitted our letter of intent to the OCA earlier this year, we have been dedicated to reimagining the model of the Asian Games and enabling the Asian Olympic Movement to connect with new audiences. Riyadh 2030 will be a festival of sport for all of Asia to enjoy and a golden opportunity to drive long-lasting sporting, societal and cultural change in the region."
