
(ATR) A total of seven athletes have disappeared following the 2014 Asian Games.The Games, which took place in the South Korean city of Incheon, ended on Oct. 4.
A report from the Associated Press says the whereabouts of two athletes from Sri Lanka, one from Bangladesh, and one from Palestine could not be determined. On Sept. 25 and 26, reports surfaced that three Nepali athletes had also disappeared.
South Korean police say they believe the athletes are searching for work in the country.
Maxwell de Silva, Secretary General of the Sri Lankan National Olympic Committee did not sound optimistic his athletes would be found.
"I really don’t understand what went through his mind, but this does happen, and it’s very unfortunate," de Silva said to Around the Rings.
"We have informed the police, our High Commission, the embassy and also the ministry of sports for actions to be taken, but at the end of the day the damage has been done."
The Bangladeshi, Palestinian, and Nepali NOCs could not be reached for comment.
Athlete’s visas for the Games expire on October 19.
