Lahore, Pakistan, August 6, 2015: The Olympic Council of Asia is very sad to learn of the passing of former Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Secretary General Muhammad Latif Butt.
Muhammad Latif Butt took many high level positions in Asian Olympic family, he serviced Vice President of OCA and Asia Swimming Federation (AASF). He was POA Secretary General for 14 years and a respected special advisor for OCA President HE Sheikh Ahmad.
Mr Latif Butt died this morning at his home in Lahore. The OCA and ANOC President, HE Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, sent a letter of condolence to the POA.
"On behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia and on my personal behalf I would like to convey our sincere condolences on the sad demise of our beloved friend and colleague and your father, Mr. Muhammad Latif Butt," said Sheikh Ahmad.
"I have had the pleasure of personally knowing Mr. Butt for a very long time and he was not only a great sports leader but an even better human being and a great friend. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him would have been touched by his humbleness and warmth.
"Mr. Latif Butt will not only be missed by the people of Pakistan but by the global sports fraternity. "I Pray to the Almighty to give peace to his noble soul and courage to you, family and friends to bear this great loss."
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Latif Butt. The condolence and cremation are being held in Lahore today.
