Today during Canada Day celebrations in Edmonton City Hall, the Edmonton 2022 Bid Committee in collaboration with the City of Edmonton, the Government of Alberta and Commonwealth Games Canada unveiled the Edmonton 2022 logo and officially confirmed Reg Milley, former Edmonton Airports President and CEO, as the Chairman of the Bid Committee for Edmonton 2022.
Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson stated, "Edmonton has built a strong reputation for welcoming the world through sporting events. Our bid effort, in partnership with the Alberta government, is focused on convincing the Commonwealth Games family that Edmonton is the ideal host city for 2022."
Milley echoes the Mayor’s comments about the commitment of Edmonton to advancing the Commonwealth Games. "Canada hosted the first Games in 1930 so what better way to celebrate Canada Day than to announce the next steps in our efforts to bring the Games home to Canada in 2022," Milley says. "Edmonton set a new standard for the Commonwealth Games in 1978. We are excited by the prospect of hosting this event again and helping to take the Games to a new level."
