COB Sponsors the 1st Edition of the Brazilian Olympic Congress Attended by International Specialists

Michael Vesper, senior consultant of the International Olympic Committee, Chelsea Warr, United Kingdom Sport Performance Director, Maurits Hendricks, Sport Technical Director of the Dutch Olympic Committee and Chris O’Brien, Performance Deputy Director of the Australian Sport Institute have already confirmed they will be attending the 1st edition of the Brazilian Olympic Congress. Organized by the Brazilian Olympic Institute (IOB), the Education Department of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the event will be held on April 13, at the WTC Events Center, in São Paulo. Destined to sport managers, coaches and professionals, the objective of the Brazilian Olympic Congress is to convey and share information and knowledge in the community of main sport stakeholders. "The Brazilian Olympic Congress will be broadest ever opportunity for discussions about elite sport in our country. We have selected a distinguished group of specialists to discuss high relevance subjects, as for example, athlete’s identification and development and the benchmark management systems in leading countries, which are subjects that may generate positive impacts on all sport segments. This will be a great opportunity for sport professionals who are unable to attend the courses sponsored by the IOB and will now be attending the congress to make the most of the knowledge developed by the Institute", COB general director and Barcelona 92 Judo Olympic Champion Rogério Sampaio, says.

Chelsea Warr’s experience, at UK Sport since 2005 heading the transformation of the approach to Great Britain Elite Sport system, focusing talent detection and development, leading the country to the historic achievements at Rio 2016 Games, is an example of excellence in Olympic sport. Chelsea will be joined for the round table in Sport Organizational System by Maurits Hendricks, responsible for the development of the sport policy and the enhancement of the performance of the leading Dutch athletes, and COB Sport director, Jorge Bichara.

The lecture on Ethics, Governance and Compliance in sport will be delivered by International Olympic Committee consultant Michael Vesper. Chris O´Brien, the most successful Olympic rowing coach in Australia, who led the Australian team to win a gold and two silver medals at the Rio 2016 Games, will talk about a Strategic Vision to Increase Sport Competitiveness.

The event will also offer entertainment, information and much knowledge exchanges. The exhibitions will create an opportunity for interaction with sport through memorabilia, photos, images and theses that have impacted the segment. A unique learning opportunity to learn in an entertaining and creative way. Event participants will also be offered practical activities, such as the COB Olympic Laboratory, that was established to assist in the improvement of the performance of Brazilian athletes based on scientific support to Olympic sports and research and development in sport.

The Brazilian Olympic Congress also marks the 10th anniversary of the IOB, COB Department of Education. Established in 2009, the IOB mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge, by promoting training and development programs for a comprehensive qualification of national Olympic sport professionals. For a full decade the IOB has been providing a significant contribution to the development of national elite sport.

to contribute to the development and growth of national sport, the IOB qualifies and educates professionals through its three main programs: Managers Program, Athlete’s Career Program and the Brazilian Academy of Coaches. Along the period, 2,317 managers, 773 coaches and 230 athletes in the career transition period graduated at IOB, accounting for over 10 thousand hours of course. Among the medals conquered by Brazil at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, 79% came from the Brazilian Confederations with higher involvement in the qualification programs offered by the IOC. In the last few years, the IOB has engaged 61 international coaches, who, together, own 72 Olympic medals, for exchanges with Brazilian coaches.
