The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Coordination Commission will be receiving its latest updates on Birmingham 2022 preparations through a series of virtual sessions over the coming week.
The Coordination Commission (CoCom) is responsible for delivery oversight of the Commonwealth Games and is tasked with monitoring Games delivery to scope, schedule and budget.
This will be the fifth CGF CoCom review of Birmingham 2022 but due to the ongoing travel restrictions caused by the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, sessions this week will be undertaken virtually; which was also the case with the fourth CGF CoCom in June 2020.
The CoCom will take place from 4-5 December and will be Chaired by CGF Vice President Bruce Robertson.
Robertson, a former swimmer who won six Commonwealth Games medals and two Olympic medals for Canada, has previously served as CGF CoCom Chair for Melbourne 2006, Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018. He is also the CGF representative on the Birmingham 2022 Legacy and Benefits Committee.
The other members of the five-person CoCom are Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Executive Director Andrew Ryan, CGF Chief Operating Officer Darren Hall, Glasgow City Council Director of Governance and Solicitor to the Council Carole Forrest and Commonwealth Games Scotland Head of Games Operations Elinor Middlemiss.
They will be supported by the CGF Management Team and CGF Partnerships, who have embedded resources integrated in the Birmingham 2022 delivery teams and provide significant previous Games expertise.
CGF CoCom Chair Bruce Robertson said: "As we continue to operate in unprecedented times with the impacts of COVID-19, we are aware that Birmingham 2022 has been working tirelessly to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic on their planning activities and the Games. We are impressed with the flexibility and resilience they have displayed.
Since our last review in June, there has been significant progress and some exciting developments. We look forward to updates from the Organising Committee and partners, while providing guidance and support to ensure the successful delivery of Birmingham 2022."
The CGF CoCom will outline their initial reflections of the review early next week.
