Catherine Fettell Joins AOC Executive

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) today announced Catherine Fettell has been elected to the

AOC Executive filling the casual vacancy left by Nicole Livingstone who stepped down in November.

Fettell, President of Shooting Australia, was one of four nominations put forward to the AOC’s

Culture, Remuneration & Nominations Committee from national sport federations who then made

their recommendations to the AOC Executive for consideration.

"I am very pleased to have someone of Catherine’s experience and in particular the skills she brings

to our Executive," AOC President John Coates said.

"Catherine has worked with the Australian International Aid Agency for almost 40 years while also

holding several high performance and administrator roles within her sport of shooting.

"This now means seven of our elected Executive members are current Presidents of national sport

federations clearly making us an Executive that is in touch with Australian sport.

"Along with this, Helen Brownlee and I are former Presidents of sports and Vice President Ian

Chesterman is a six-time Chef de Mission of the Australian Winter Olympic Team and also the Chef

de Mission for Tokyo 2020."

Fettell’s appointment to the AOC Executive was undoubtedly a proud moment for her and the sport

she loves.

"I’d like to thank the AOC for the opportunity," she acknowledged.

"I fully support the principles of the AOC. I think we are very lucky as Australians to have sport as

such a large aspect of our lives and the AOC plays a very big part in that.

"I’m genuinely looking forward to working as a part of the AOC team."

Fettell also hailed her appointment as a great achievement for shooting, a sport Australia has had

plenty of success in on the international stage.

"Shooting Australia has a great board, with some new people on it, all working alongside a very

enthusiastic and hard working CEO.

"This is a great acknowledgement of the work of Shooting Australia."

Having competed internationally for Australia in shooting herself, Fettell took on her first role as an

administrator in 1992.

She has since held several positions within the sport, first at a state level before taking up her first

national role as the first Vice President of Pistol Australia in 2002.

Fettell was elected as a Director on the Shooting Australia Board in 2011 and then moved into her

current role of President in May 2012.

In this role she acts as Australia’s delegate to the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as

well as the Oceania and Commonwealth Shooting Federations and is widely respected in the sport

she has dedicated much of her life too.

Fettell also had an esteemed career working for the Australian federal government aid agency, in its

several guises, for almost 40 years before retiring in 2014.

Among the many roles she has held, Fettell was the Director of Performance Review and Audit

before taking on the role as the Director of Fraud Control for the Australian Overseas Aid Program.
