(ATR) The Commonwealth Games are more relevant to the international sports scene than ever, says David Grevemberg, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
Grevemberg talks with Around the Rings Editor Ed Hula in this edition of ATRadio about new directions the CGF is taking to ensure the legacy of the Commonwealth Games.
"When you have 90 years of history...we become a movement that really upholds certain I would say values in terms of freedom and fairness, equality, importance of human-centric approach and unleashing people’s ambitions and aspirations through the power of sport."
While Covid-19 has affected connectivity for meetings within the Commonwealth Games Federation, Grevemberg says preparations for Birmingham 2022 are still on schedule.
"We're still going strong to our event in 2022 in terms of Birmingham and those relative dates whilst a number of major sporting events are having to reschedule 2022. We have been able to collaborate with the likes of World Athletics and so forth around some of their signature events that have had to relocate to protect our event."
Grevemberg also highlights Hamilton, Ontario’s interest in hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
