(ATR)IOC TOP sponsor Atos has finished work restructuring the cloud and IT infrastructure that will be used for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
The new cloud service is called Canopy and will be used to test and run IT applications to distribute results to the world’s media as well as support the planning systems used to recruit volunteers, support workforce management, manage the competition schedule and process accreditations.
The successful implementation of the cloud based server marks a turning point in the digital transformation of the Olympic Games. Most applications managed by Atos for the Games will be run through the cloud.
"The delivery of the secure cloud, IT infrastructure to support all Olympic Games from 2018 is a major milestone in our digital transformation. Cloud is a perfect fit for the Olympic Games and we are delighted to be working with our long-term Worldwide IT Partner on this important project that will benefit all those who participate in the Games – media, athletes and spectators," said IOC member Jean-Benoit Gauthier.
"The new cloud IT infrastructure developed through use of innovative EMC technology is helping to transform IT for the Olympic Games and our customers. Working with EMC we are well positioned in our ability to deliver secure cloud IT infrastructure in the digital era," said Marta Ribot, general manager for the Olympics at Atos.
The cloud was first tested in August when organizers used the competition schedule and workforce management applications. The next test comes later in September when the cloud capacity will increase for a brief period to perform technical tests to ensure the cloud will be able to withstand the demand necessary for the Games.
USA Luge and Western New York Energy Renew Partnership
Western New York Energy has signed on as an official supporter of USA Luge for the second year in a row.
The relationship between the company and organization stems from the I Love BBQ and Music Festival, held once a year at Lake Placid on the 4th of July weekend.
The festival is organized by USA Luge and other community partners and WNYE’s president Michael Sawyer is a regular attendee at the event. At this year’s festival, Sawyer and USA Luge marketing manager Dmitry Feld resumed talks of their partnership and decided to extend it for another year.
WNYE opened 12 years ago and was the first operating ethanol plant of its kind to open in the northeastern United States.
"Western New York Energy is pleased to be continuing our relationship with USA Luge. We partner with hard-working farmers in our region, helping them produce clean, renewable energy. In a similar way, we are now involved with a sports federation that thinks creatively and aggressively to get itself to the finish line faster than others," said Sawyer.
"We thank Western New York Energy for their continued faith in our organization. It’s support such as this that helps us achieve 13 World Cup medals as we did last season," said USA Luge executive director Jim Leahy.
The relationship allows WNYE to use the marks and symbols of USA Luge in its’ promotional materials, as well as the "Official Supporter" designation in its marketing and communications strategies.
