Asian Games Teams Shaping Up With One Month Until Games

(ATR) Three countries release team size; Japan selects woman weightlifter to captain 2014 Asiad squad.

(ATR) With one month to go to the Asian Games, North Korea, Singapore and Vietnam announced their entries for the Asiad.

North Korea will send 150 athletes to Incheon, Singapore will send 227 athletes and Vietnam 199 athletes, pending OCA approval after all entries are received.

Athletes from North Korea will participate in 14 sports, Singaporean athletes will participate in 20 sports, and Vietnamese athletes in 21 sports.

The 2010 Asian Games had 9,704 athletes participate in 42 sports. Six sports, roller sport, chess, cue sports, softball, dancesport and dragon boat have been removed from the 2014 program.

Japan Names First Female Team Captain

Weightlifter Hiromi Miyake will serve as team captain for the Japanese team at the Asiad.

Reuters news agency reports it is the first time that Japan has selected a woman in the role of captain for the Games.

Female archer Kaori Kawanaka, will serve as flagbearer for Japan at the Opening Ceremony.
