Istanbul, Turkey; 22 November 2019: Applications for the Turkish Olympic Committee’s
(TOC) 32nd Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race will open on 4 January
2020.
The race will take place on Sunday 12 July 2020 and is expected to attract more than 2,400
swimmers.
The event is considered to be one of the world’s best open water swimming races and is the
only competitive swimming contest to from Asia to Europe.
The race, organised by the TOC since 1989, sees swimmers from all accross the world swim
a 6.5km route from Kanlıca on the Asian side of Istanbul to Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park
on the European side.
Foreign swimmer quota for 2019 race filled within 28 minutes
Due to huge demand from international swimmers, there is a strict 1,200-person foreign
swimmers.
International swimmers wanting to apply for the 2020 race will need to act quickly with last
year’s quota filling up within 28 minutes of opening on the race’s website.
Russian swimmers filled their country quota within just six minutes whilst Ukraine filled theirs
in only 11 minutes.
