(ATR) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah toured Buenos Aires’ Youth Olympic Village, days after convening an executive committee meeting for ANOC in Santiago.

The Association of National Olympic Committees President rated the village highly, saying it is the only place where "we can have the whole world together" at one time. Ahmad was joined on his tour by Buenos Aires Mayor Horacio Rodriguez Larreta, Buenos Aires 2018 President Gerardo Werthein, and Argentine basketball star Luis Scola.

"The place that will accommodate the athletes is of very high standard, nice looking, colorful and surrounded by sports facilities and green," Ahmad said in a statement after touring the village. "The Youth Olympic Village always becomes our home. We are really happy to have such a beautiful home."

The Buenos Aires 2018 village will house 3,998 athletes and 2,170 technical staff during the Youth Olympic Games this year. The complex has 31 buildings, which will become apartment buildings after the Games are complete.

"It’s a privilege and a pleasure to have Sheikh Ahmad in Buenos Aires," Wertheim said in a statement after the visit. "He’s a person we can learn from; he’s attended 17 Olympic Games. He can teach us how to do things better, to perfect things."

In Santiago, the ANOC Executive Board addressed the assistance provided to many NOCs for the athletes that will compete at the YOG in Buenos Aires between October 6 and 18.

A special IOC plan through Olympic Solidarity is currently helping 103 NOCs in funding to get athletes to the event.
