(ATR) Almaty held a city-wide bike ride on Saturday to support the city’s 2022 Winter Olympic bid.

Organizers urged all supporters of the bid to take part in the event. Participants began at the Sunkar ski jumping center and rode through the city to the finish line at Central Stadium, where a concert from Kazakhstani artists was held.

"Our goal is to become an even more modern city," Almaty vice mayor Zauresh Amanzholova said of the bid in a release, "with the latest technologies to have the best environmental conditions, with an education and sport system as a means to create a healthy lifestyle for future generations, and creating a city residents are proud of."

Some notable participants included Olympic champion Alexander Vinokurov, Italian biker Fabio Aru, and members of the Kazakhstani Paralympic team.

Almaty is one of four cities, along with Lviv, Ukraine; Beijing; and Oslo, bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The IOC will announce the bid winner in July 2015.
