Al Haddad attends First Arab Anti-Doping Forum

Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Anti-Doping Committee chairman Dr. Hussain Al Haddad recently attended the First Pan Arab Anti-Doping Forum held in Luxor, in Egypt.

Held under the patronage of Egyptian Prime Minister Eng. Ibrahim Mahleb, the forum was attended by representatives of 51 countries, together with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) and several Arab youth and sports ministers and National Olympic Committee presidents.

Organised by the Republic of Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sport, the two-day forum resolved a number of issues on their agenda.

Dr. Al Haddad said all of the attending countries vowed to ensure that appropriate Code Complain Rules are developed, approved and implemented by June 1, 2015. WADA also pledged to continue assisting countries in this regard.

"The forum acknowledged the ongoing leadership role of WAD and committed to continue supporting the agency in its vision and mission," said Dr. Al Haddad.

It also deliberated the critical role that the Regional Anti-Doping Orgniazation (RADO’s) play in ensuring that anti-doping is global and in this regard pledged its continued support to the RADO’s and also committed to further support, and where necessary amplify, the roles and functions of the existing NADO’s in the region.

"The UNESCO International Convention against Doping in sport, compel governments to ensure that appropriate and relevant regulatory/legislative frameworks are put in place to effectively address issues related to doping as a threat to public health, to regulate the supplement industry, and to curb the availability of doping substances, generally speaking," added Dr. Al Haddad.

He noted that the forum encouraged all governments to expedite the process that relevant steps are taken to give effective to the tenets of the convention.
