(ATR) Olympians, IOC members and sports professionals gather in Bamako, Mali for the sixth annual International Convention for Sport in Africa, CISA.

More than 100 delegates are attending the two-day conference. Day one is focused on the role of technology in sport and day two will center on sport development in Africa.

IOC members at the meeting include Patrick Chamunda of Zambia, Irena Szewinzka of Poland and Claudia Bokel from Germany. Bokel, a member of the IOC Athletes Commission, led an athletes’ seminar sponsored by Adecco on the eve of the CISA convention. Journalists from around the continent took part in another seminar held on the side of the convention.

Mark Adams, IOC communications director, is at CISA along with IOC director of international cooperation Thomas Sithole.

Japanese NOC vice president Masato Mizuno may have travelled the furthest of the delegates; he is a regular CISA attendee.

Friday night features the CISA Gala with induction of athletes into the African Sports Hall of Fame.

The Bamako convention is being held under the patronage of ANOCA, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa and the Mali NOC. Around the Rings is one of the media partners for CISA.
