Gymnastics fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see the return of Gabby Douglas.

The three-time Olympic gold medal winner has pulled out of the Winter Cup in Louisville, Kentucky due to a positive COVID-19 test.

The 28-year-old American hasn’t competed in a meet since the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics where she helped Team USA win the team gold medal.

She was scheduled to compete in three of the four events at the Winter Cup, but that will have to wait. The Winter Cup is the first major tune-up for American gymnasts who have their eye on Paris.

Douglas posted on social media she was “crushed” by the positive test, but promised her fans she would return to the mat soon.

With Douglas sidelined the focus will likely be on another American Olympic gold medal winner, Suni Lee.

Lee won gold in Tokyo 2020 but has been dealing with kidney disease. During a recent interview with Olympics, she said she is “currently in remission” and is beginning to get her health issues under control.

She retired from her collegiate career at Auburn University last year citing at the time a “non-gymnastics health-related issue.”
